-30-G-PremioBond2648 Acidic PH Weakens Effectiveness of SilaneContained in Universal AdhesivesPoster Presentation3:45 PM–5:00 PM Mar 24, 2017CC, First Floor Authors:Authors:Cui Huang (Presenter)Wuhan UniversityChenminYao, Wuhan UniversityHongyeYang, Wuhan UniversityJianYu, Wuhan UniversityLu Zhang, Wuhan UniversityAbstract: Abstract: Objectives: Some universal adhesive manufactures argue that their versatile adhesives do not need a separate primer on glass-ceramic bonding. The purpose of this study was to investigate the chemical bonding effectiveness of silanecontained in universal adhesives in acidic media. Methods: The adhesives included two silane-containing universal adhesives (Single bond Universal and ClearfilUniversal Bond) and two no-silaneones (All Bond Universal and G-premioBond). γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane(γ-MPS) was used combining with adding HClor methacryloxydecylphosphate (MDP) for mimicking acidic environment. Microshearbond strength (µSBS) was measured on glass-ceramic bonding. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (µSBS) was measured on glass-ceramic bonding. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was utilized to analyze the failure modes of resin-ceramic bonding interface. For unraveling chemical mechanisms, fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), in situ 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy were carried out. Results: For glass-ceramic bonding, the µSBSvalues were not significantly different within the four universal adhesives (p> 0.05). Cohesive in adhesives was the main fracture pattern. FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR revealed that the hydrolysis and self-condensation of γ-MPS happened and changed over time in acidic conditions. The µSBSvalues of γ-MPS in a low PH were decreased over time (p< 0.05).over time (p< 0.05).Conclusions: The chemical bonding effectiveness of silanecontained in some universal adhesives could be weakened by dehydration condensation in a low PH environment. For the better bonding efficiency, a separate ceramic primer remains recommended at the present stage.Reprinted with permission from the Journal of Dental Research, J Dent Res 96 (Spec Iss A):-30-abstract number 2648, https://iadr2017.zerista.com/poster/member/76277, 2017
