-29-G-PremioBond2646 Influence of Air-powder Polishing on Bond Strength of Universal AdhesivesPoster Presentation3:45 PM–5:00 PM Mar 24, 2017CC, First Floor Authors:Authors:Yukie Tamura (Presenter)Nihon University School of DentistryToshikiTakamizawa, Nihon UniversityRyo Kawamoto, Nihon UniversityHajime Oouchi, Nihon UniversityMasashi Miyazaki, Nihon UniversityKoHinoura, HinouraDental ClinicAbstract: Objectives: This study was to know the influence of air-powder polishing with AIR-FLOW PERIO (glycine) and AIR-FLOW CLASSIC (sodium bicarbonate) on shear bond strength and surface-free energy of universal adhesives. Methods: The adhesives used were :Scotch bond Universal (3M ESPE), G-PremioBond (GC Corp.), AdheseUniversal (IvoclarVivadent), and All-Bond Universal (Bisco) with a combination of resin composite ClearfilAP-X (Kuraray Noritake Dental). Bovine mandibularincisors were mounted in self-curing resin and the facial surfaces were wet ground with #600 silicon carbide paper. Dentin self-curing resin and the facial surfaces were wet ground with #600 silicon carbide paper. Dentin surfaces were air polished with sodium bicarbonate and glycinepowder prior to adhesive application, and resin pastes were inserted into the mold on the tooth surface and cured. After storage in distilled water for 24h, shear bond strengths were measured at a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min. Surface-free energy was determined by measuring contact angles using three test liquids on dentin surfaces after air-powder polishing. Treated dentin surfaces and bonding interfaces were observed by using scanning elctronmicroscopy (SEM).Results: The shear bond strength and surface-free energy were affected by air-powder polishing Results: The shear bond strength and surface-free energy were affected by air-powder polishing with sodium bicarbonate. On the other hand, Glycineshowed no detrimental effect on dentin bonding and surface-free energy. SEM observation of air-polished dentin surfaces showed that the air-polished surfaces with sodium bicarbonate were rough and covered with a smear plug, while those with glycinewere smooth and the smear layer was removed. SEM observation of bonding surface showed excellent adaptation to the dentin surface at resin-dentin interfaces in all groups. Conclusions: From the results obtained, air-powder polishing with sodium bicarbonate powder affected bond strength, when universal adhesives was used for dentin bonding. On the other affected bond strength, when universal adhesives was used for dentin bonding. On the other hand, air-powder polishing with glycinepower did not influence bonding performance. In case of clinical use, it is necessary to consider the type of powder and universal adhesives.Reprinted with permission from the Journal of Dental Research, J Dent Res 96 (Spec Iss A):-29-abstract number 2646, https://iadr2017.zerista.com/poster/member/76275, 2017
