-13-EQUIA Forte1359 Evaluation of pH Fluoride and Calcium Release for Dental MaterialsPoster Presentation3:45 PM–5:00 PM Mar 23, 2017CC, First FloorAuthors:Authors:Brian Morrow (Presenter)University of TennesseeJennifer Brown, University of TennesseeColette Stewart, University of TennesseeFranklin Garcia-Godoy, University of TennesseeAbstract: Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate fluoride and calcium ion release and pH for new and current dental materials in artificial saliva over three weeks.for new and current dental materials in artificial saliva over three weeks. Methods: Twenty-four disc-shaped samples (n=6/gp) were made for each cement materials (ACTIVA, Filtek, EQUIA Forte, and KetacFil), stored in D-PBS media (37°C, 21d), measured (F-, Ca+2, and pH) and compared statistically analyzed (Two-way RM ANOVA, SNK p<0.05). Each sample’s solution was divided into three separate containers for measurements. Measurements made with probes each day after appropriate calibration, D-PBS solution replaced to each sample for next time point. Results: Fluoride ion release for EQUIA Forte showed the largest amount of fluoride initially (9.0mg/L) then declining release to 3.9mg/L. The other three materials maintained a balanced (9.0mg/L) then declining release to 3.9mg/L. The other three materials maintained a balanced release in the range of 0-3mg/L over time. Calcium ion release showed greater variance with ACTIVA releasing the most ions into solution, with an initial ion value of 25.1mg/L and maintaining 17.0mg/L at 21days. Filtekhad a similar pattern starting initially at 24.3mg/L and declining to 2.5mg/L at 21days. EQUIA Forte and KetacFilsustained concentration range in the 15 to 5mg/L over the course of 21days. ACTIVA and Filtekretained a more neutral pH initially and then tapering off slightly below seven at 14 and 21days. The EQUIA Forte and KetacFilmaterials maintained a slightly acidic pH of 6.5 to 6.7 initially and moving a bit to 6.75 at 7days and remaining there for there for the duration.and remaining there for there for the duration. Conclusions: ACTIVA’s pH maintained a neutral and consistent level over the time period while the other materials were more variable. Calcium release for ACTIVA may suggest an ability to promote tooth remineralization. The fluoride release is low but present in solution, the fluoride uptake needs investigation of understand the prevention fully.Table(s):pH1 Hour1 Day4 Days7 Days14 Days21 DaysActiva7.12(0.01)7.13(0.01)7.09(0.02)7.08(0.02)6.99(0.02)6.99(0.02)Filtek7.15(0.01)7.11(0.01)7.08(0.03)7.06(0.05)6.89(0.01)6.89(0.01)Equia Forte6.57(0.10)6.55(0.04)6.62(0.02)6.75(0.02)6.69(0.02)6.73(0.03)Equia Forte6.57(0.10)6.55(0.04)6.62(0.02)6.75(0.02)6.69(0.02)6.73(0.03)Ketac Fil6.73(0.07)6.56(0.13)6.70(0.09)6.81(0.05)6.77(0.02)6.80(0.02)Ca2+Activa25.18(2.25)22.93(0.64)20.47(2.74)24.89(1.18)20.60(3.72)16.92(2.61)Filtek24.28(0.89)22.95(1.80)19.75(0.97)20.64(3.19)2.74(0.98)2.53(0.31)Equia Forte9.80(2.31)5.80(1.22)5.11(0.54)7.65(1.02)9.65(1.29)13.85(1.41)Ketac Fil13.99(0.64)8.03(1.02)8.60(3.23)10.29(4.11)12.69(4.39)15.00(4.70)F-Activa0.68(0.56)0.30(0.15)0.28(0.13)0.30(0.15)0.30(0.15)0.22(0.08)Filtek0.08(0.08)0.05(0.08)0.03(0.05)0.04(0.03)0.04(0.03)0.03(0.02)Disclosure Statement:The submitter must disclose the names of the organizations with which any author have a relationship, the nature of the relationship, and the clinical or research area involved.
